As if protected by its lofty castle, Silves overlooks the valley of the Rio Arade.
The historic town of Silves was once the capital of the Algarve. The richness of its past and its history is reflected everywhere in the city. Its castle, the most important and best preserved in the Algarve, overlooks its narrow and irregular little alleys where the typical restaurants, small art galleries and craft shops hide making it a city where Portuguese authenticity still reigns and where storks like to spend the winter.
